Hmmm ...

... a real possibility, but, at this moment [and things change real quickly for me these days], just that ... a possibility.

Keep it in mind, though. It could happen, to the right buyer - or group of buyers - for the right price, it could be had. Think it over, just in case.

The price? Make an offer.

What's [would be] included:
  • The domain name, mohicanpress.com - currently paid for through March '05
  • All rights to all material found on this web site - thousands of images, hundreds of pages, dozens of sound clips, videos, and downloads
  • All rights to my book, On the Trail of the Last of the Mohicans, and any copies left in stock [more can be printed, on demand]
  • A state-of-the-art ASP message board - updated yesterday to the most recent version
  • A state-of-the-art shopping cart - installed, but never implemented

With visitation nearing 4000 unique visitors per day ... the place is jammed. If you have a bit more business sense than I have, perhaps you can do better financially than we did.

Currently, the web site is housed on a server in Ohio at $80 per month. It would be cheaper if you paid for a year at a time. It has pretty much unlimited bandwidth, 1 GB of space, streams media, has an advanced MS-SQL Server database that holds this board, good tech support, supports Front Page & ASP. If a deal were to be made, you would, of course, have the freedom to move it anywhere you like.

Anyway, a possibility ...

Perhaps, a better avenue is for a cooperative effort. Recently, Kay & Diana S. have made major financial contributions that have helped to keep us afloat. This was genuinely appreciated by me, and should be so by you ... now that you know of it. The two of them did this independently and without any fanfare.

Of course, this need not be necessary. There are ways to support the endeavor without a straight-up donation. See this thread, for example: Looking For the LOTM Movie Poster?.

Anyway, with my personal situation, finances are tighter than ever for me, and things really are on a month-to-month basis. I don't usually know from one day to the next which way I am headed ...

Don't forget:

Mohican Press Bookstore
Computer Simulations
BEST BET: On the Trail of the Last of the Mohicans

From the most recent purchaser - or one of them - I received the book today...I love it and look forward to exploring the trail...thank you so much...take care....

The Web Site thrives in just about every way. It would be a shame to go belly up!

So, anyway ... a very rough past couple of years. This Thursday, what marked the beginning of that stretch, the birth of my little Sophia RosaMaria, turns two years old! She is a remarkable being ... full of life & joy. She's still tiny, but getting stronger, still on the bald side, but hair is growing, still fairly non-verbal, but manages to communicate. She is a doll, and runs to me every time I see her - and won't leave my side. I miss her terribly. Maybe I can manage a photo this week.

Sophia's First Birthday!
The Sophia Story

Happy Trails, folks!

Well, the domain name has been extended [paid for] for another 3 years ... wonder what it'll be worth in 2012?

I know how you feel, Kay. It's been a long journey to date - and hopefully it will be much longer - and a lot of good people have come and gone, some of whom I miss terribly. Funny thing is, somebody cool always comes along to help to fill the void created by another's leave. You are one of those people! Thanks!

For a moment when I skimmed through this thread my heart skipped a beat. I just found you guys, you can't leave me now! As I have been exploring the book and the site I see so many names of people that seem to have left Mohicanland. Some I'm sorry to learn have passed away while others have simply disappeared for one reason or another. I feel like I have missed something great by not having the chance to converse with all of these people and get to know them. I only hope that I do the board and Mohicanland justice and would feel like I would have gotten along with all the past players and supporters that have made so much happen, that allows me the chance to be here now. And you can bet that Bea and all my friends are now hearing about you guys a lot and Bea has my Christmas and Birthday list to do some shopping on cafepress and amazon here! If any of you are willing to share the best way as to make a "gift" to Mohicanland I'll try to someday. I'm not much of an over the internet giver(no credit card) so regular mail may be the best way for me. Most importantly I offer myself, my friendship, and my prayers-leaving it in God's hands is when miracles happen and I can already attest to his miracles in my life-time and time again! Just know that you have a new LOTM freak on the band wagon that will do what she can to keep it going.

Man o man o man! This is a tough'un all right.

I have only one suggestion (which you won't like--not sure I do either). I have seen on many forums...advertising links. AFAIK the forum gets a little $$$ from each click. It's worth a thought, I think.

The Mohican Board is 1 of only 2 forums which I visit every single day. I like to believe I've made some good friends here...I'll pray that it survives another challenge.

I'll see if I can find my coin purse for a small donation (would Continental Script do?).
Wilderness Woman Posted - January 04 2009 : 11:58:06 AM
Whew!!!!!

OK, one more month is good. Let's hope the reprieve can continue.

Sounds like it is time for another pep talk. So..... those of us who are still here: remember that when you want to purchase something from Amazon.com, to enter through the portal on the Home page of this site (not the boards, the main site). It's down at the bottom, under the heading "Affiliates." If you use that to enter Amazon's site, Rich will get a small percentage of your purchase amount.

Rich, may I suggest that you add a note in that area that states something to that effect? I see there is a very small statement just above that, but many may miss it. Perhaps many of us here don't realize that option is available. So... remember to use it, folks!

Oh.... and to those who apparently left because of Rich's political leanings: Come on back! We're all friends here, and it's only politics!

Praise be! Small donation coming.
richfed Posted - January 04 2009 : 10:43:50 AM
REPRIEVE!!!! yet again ...

A couple of book orders and a wampum order and all is well in the World again ... at least for 30 days!! I should be able to keep 'er going for a tad longer.

Some great suggestions have come my way from some of you. Now, if only I can implement one or two. I'm afraid I've grown busy ... or distracted ... or something ... last update of the site has been on 11/8. I don't think it's ever gone 2 months without being updated. I must do better ... a lot of this is my own fault. Slothfulness is not good!

To address some of your comments made in this thread:

The site will always be free. That is how I want it to be. Donations are welcomed, but they must be voluntary. Still, the best way to support this site is to purchase through the bookstore [Amazon affiliate], Caf Press, or wampum items ... my book, of course, but how many copies can one buy???

Yes, the Board has been slow ... but, I've gotten used to its ups & downs. That's just how it is. The site itself thrives as always. It is a reference source for thousands every day. Trouble is, few of those who utilize it in that manner ever contribute anything. Again, it is what it is - as Bill Parcells likes to say. The only troubling thing about the board is that, apparently, some left because I supported John McCain. That is very, very disappointing to me.

Anyway, carry on ... I will try to update the site is the near future and hope the Good Lord sees fit to keep this place a-goin'!

What do we need, Rich, and where should we send it?
Irishgirl Posted - January 04 2009 : 09:14:49 AM
Such sad news indeed. Not been around much lately myself as "issues" to deal with in my personal life but I am so shocked to hear that the site will be going off the internet. I know you are too nice to do such a thing but I really do wish you would have some kind of membership fee say $20 or $30 per year. Surely that would help you out. I would happily pay the membership as I have enjoyed this site so much and it has helped me through tough times. Now the hubby is ready to "deploy" yet again for another year and I will miss the companionship I have found on here. It helped me through the last time and I was counting on it doing the same again. I too have made friendships on here and enjoyed reading the posts even if I did not always put my "two cents" worth in. I wish you the best Rich and do hope the site can be back online before too long.

Rich,

I don't know what to say...this news truly breaks my heart.
I've been an avid fan of this site since I first discovered it (remember my e-mail to you back in the fall of 2001?) & I honestly can't imagine not having this place to come to each day.

Unfortunately, my personal circumstances over the past couple of years have not allowed me to be in a position to do anything to support this site financially, as I've been unemployed for the majority of that time frame & it has been all I can do to keep myself going. As a matter of fact, my current "benefits," small as they may be, will run out later this month. BUT I STILL HAVE A COUPLE OF WEEKS LEFT! And if it will help keep Mohicanland afloat, I will gladly send you as much as I can to help get you through this rough spot. So please feel free to respond to me either on this forum, or via private e-mail & let me know what I can do to help.

And to everyone else out there in Mohicanland: Let's all join together to do whatever is necessary to keep this site going! After all that Rich has done, we owe him that much, don't you think???
Seamus Posted - January 03 2009 : 7:05:56 PM
Gonna miss it, man......and everyone here....made some really cool friends.

Keep in touch, Sachem....you're the best! Wish I could bail you out. Hey! Maybe you can..........naw.................Obama wouldn't do it. Maybe he can, he IS the Messiah, you know!

Seriously, we will really miss this site and you. I hope it does work out that it will be back later on.

Thanks for everything you have done for us......it's been a good ride.
blackfootblood Posted - January 03 2009 : 6:39:57 PM
It has been awhile since I've checked in and posted anything. Rich, I'm so sorry to hear about this site coming to an end. It breaks my heart. I have made many, many friends here and not to mention all the great people!! My best to everyone out there in Mohicanland!!
Wilderness Woman Posted - January 03 2009 : 5:41:17 PM
Wow.

I am so, so sorry to hear this, Rich. I know that it appears that many have stopped visiting, or at least stopped chatting, for whatever reason. But, I will really, really miss checking in here several times each day to see what is going on... if anything.

I wish I could help you out again, Buddy. Unfortunately, I am not in a position right now that allows me to do that. I am so sorry.......

We will be in touch via email, right???
Monadnock Guide Posted - January 03 2009 : 3:34:54 PM
Certainly hate to hear that Rich, - you've done a truly great job. It's a very special place to say the least. Roughly speaking, what type of (monthly) monetary effort would be required to maintain it?
richfed Posted - January 03 2009 : 10:24:47 AM
I am really quite amazed that we made it this far ... I originally posted this thread back in Oct. 2004.

May have reached the point of no return. It is likely that the site will be dropped from cyberspace on or shortly after January 6, 2009. Hopefully, I'll be able to get it back up ...

Just wanted to give those of you still visiting a heads up. Thanks for all your past support! It has become financially unaffordable for me this month.
Dancer Posted - January 06 2007 : 3:26:03 PM
My donation will be on it's way as soon as I get to PA Rich....think I will have to buy the book as well! Would have done so already but the army keeps changing my boyfriend's departure date for Iraq so I am dealing with surviving in our apartment with boxes and sparse furnishings! Gotta love moving with the military!!!
Kaylynn44 Posted - January 03 2007 : 08:51:02 AM
Rich,
My check will be in the mail today. It will be fun to see how many of us will mail Rich a check or send him money via PayPal this month.
I know that Rich would rather everybody buy a book instead of just sending money, and for those of y'all that haven't bought one, y'all really ought to think about purchasing one. I love mine!!!
Come on gang, send in those donations or buy his book!!!

We want this website up for many years to come and without all of our help, that might not be possible!!!

Love,
Kay
richfed Posted - January 01 2007 : 09:21:16 AM
Because I charge a $2 shipping fee for my book, PayPal automatically tacks on a $2 "shipping" charge to anyone making a donation. More than likely, there's a way to fix this, but I've yet to determinine how. So, quite simply, deduct $2 from the amount you desire to donate and you will end up donating the amount you initially desired to. $8 will become $10; $18 would become $20; etc.

And yes, PayPal will take a very small cut.

Just buy my book!!

I know that when I've bought things via Paypal, that the buyer doesn't pay anything, but the seller is charged a nominal fee. I'm not sure about this $2 thing, so I just sent in my donation snail-mail.

Also count me in for $10 via the USPS. Rather spend $0.39 postage than Paypal eating up $2.00+ or most of the proceeds.

Vincent,
I might be wrong about this, but I think that the $2.00 goes to Rich. That is why you would only send $8.00 via PayPal. That way, you would be donating $10.00. Is that right Steph???

Love,
Kay

It's in the mail... hey, less than $1/month? It's the cheapest date I've had in a long time!
