Well, Elaine, I tried & tried to see Hawkeye himself popping out from behind a sabal palm along Juniper Creek, or peering over the palmettos near my campfire, but, alas, the only other persons I spotted in the wilderness (besides my husband & myself) were a couple of "good ol' boys" on their way to pick out a stout tree for a blind, in preparation for next's week's opening of hunting season. As for Hurons, Mohicans, Sauk or Fox...none anywhere! Not even a trace of the more likely (for our area) Seminole! Our luck was better at spotting interesting birds (lots of hawks & migrating warblers), fall wildflowers, weird insects, signs of bear, white-tailed deer galore (getting in one last frolic before having to lay low for a couple of months, no doubt), armadillos, raccoons and some of the fattest gray squirrels I've ever seen. Enough good stuff to keep me from missing Hawkeye TOO much, I guess! ;o)
