Very interesting comments. I've always thought that opening hunt scene was a little unlikely myself. Was very dramatic, though. As for the Courier Scene, a long rifle should be easily capable of hitting a man-sized target at 200 yards (as opposed to a musket, which couldn't hit much past 75 and couldn't hit accurately much past the muzzle...); the question is whether a real human could make such a shot in low light conditions, let alone make several (someone pointed out that Hawkeye's night vision would have been ruined after the first shot). It's a scene that definitely requires willing suspension of disbelief, something I have no problem with. :-)

Your comments about a more realistic hunt scene are no doubt well-meant, but I don't think the ladies around here would stand for the loss of the sight of Hawkeye running through the woods. Better duck-and-cover! ;-)
