Giving Duncan His Due

Well, I for one came to Duncan's defense. I think it's important to remember that Duncan was no coward. He fought bravely in the first massacre and surely would have died for Cora and Alice even then (although DDL did have to take charge in case Duncan's aim was any better n' his judgment...). Duncan, for all his flaws, was smart, loyal to his (mother) country, courageous and even (sometimes) endearing...

You can't help but be moved by his ultimate sacrifice, but I believe he demonstrates his complexity over and over and develops a depth of character that was tragically lost. I may not have always agreed with Duncan or his posturing, but could see through that and liked him...

When comparing him to DDL, he's like the nice kid who comes in last -- but would have made someone very happy. - Sarah
