: I remember someone asking about the time it was filmed. We filmed all day. Starting in the morning and we were canoeing back to shore in the dark. The mist and smoke were from machines. Movie magic only... If you have ever smelled the smoke/mist it will make you gag.. I don't know what they use but it is smells like puppy poop mixed with rotten eggs. UUUUUUGGGGGCK.
I can tell you about what they used.....most likely smoke pots. Army uses them to generate smoke during river crossings etc that they want to obscure from the enemy. We used them often in training when I was with the combat engineers....and you are right! They are enough to make you gag. Description of the smell is pretty right on target. Use a lot of them and you get a think blanket of smoke. Use one or two with a breeze and you get a mist/fog effect. But smoke pots they were I betcha!
