I finally had time to dig into my "Mohican Archives" and find the article printed in the Morganton NEWS-HERALD July 23, 1991. In part, it said:

"Burke County Sheriff's deputies were called to the movie site Monday night after Indian actors in the film refused to work ..... apparently the production people felt a threat of violence."...
"However, the matter was resolved peacefully and 'Our officers did not have to take any agressive action', Bumgarner said."....
"....Alexander Corpening of the Lake James Volunteer Fire Department said some of those involved carried picket signs."

A friend (extra) who was on the scene took a picture of the protest and has given me permission to have it scanned and put on this website. Will try to get that done ASAP.
