Myrrh...if you watch closely during this scene, you'll hear Hawkeye yell "Faster!" as he glances over his shoulder to the second canoe...I believe he is talking to Heyward & crew, and that is what I think prompted Uncas to go to their aid. Regardless of tensions between Heyward & Hawkeye, there is "safety in numbers," and they knew they needed to band together to fight the Hurons if they didn't make good their escape. That's my take on it, anyway.
