OK, Jo...I've rewatched the film & certain scenes twice more, and I still think the bedroll goes missing when Uncas dives out of the canoe...he is plainly wearing it when he gets into the canoe, and he is not wearing it when he goes over the side. At least that's how it looks to me. If this isn't right, I give up! You'll have to tell me what you've seen that I can't see!

BTW, I'm still not convinced that Hawkeye doesn't get into the canoe in front of Uncas. There is plenty of room, it appears, and he walks toward the front of Uncas before the camera cuts away. "Mebbee, mebbee not!" ;o)
