: Ever wonder about how the original forts got there?

Morning, all!

This is the question that got me reading Betrayals, Fort William Henry. I have enjoyed it greatly, and would recommend it highly.

The Albany-Montreal corridor was large and there was lots to consider; something I had not thought about before, so this has been a learning for me. Protecting the main towns, the building of roads, the waterways, the supply routes needed, scouts, information and reinforcements. My jaw drops open to think of what was accomplished by all these people.

What I found surprising was that Webb did send reinforcements, too late of course. The French and Indians completely out maneuvered the English and it's clear why they lost William Henry. Also, it's easy to see why the Indians got mad. They didn't get what was promised; the loot, prisoners, and the like. It was apparent the French needed their alliance, but were afraid also.

Only 3 1/2 months to The Gathering! (Not that I'm counting or anything.)
