: : Also, some trivia ... in the Cameron cabin, Uncas mentions a five mile field, Joseph Brandt's field. Isn't this the name of his character in another film? (One which I cannot find!)
: : Coleen

: Yes, Coleen, he plays Chief Joseph Brandt in The Broken Chain, which I believe was a Turner production. He did a good job, too, and it's a very interesting story about the mixing of cultures, and choosing sides in conflict. It's a true story. It is ironic that he says that line in LOM.

: I never did understand what the lines meant, though. "Mohawk field was file mile long in the river." What does that mean??

: Myrrh

I also saw The Broken Chain and thought Eric did a fine job in the role of Joseph Brandt. It seems Brandt lived in the same time period as the characters in LOTM. I don't think that Brandt was a chief when Uncas would have spoken the line, but sometimes movies with overlapping time periods don't always jive.

I thought the line was "Mohawk field was five mile long on the river" and meant that the Mohawks occupied an area five miles long alongside the river (?).
