Finally, a chance to explain what happened to the third bedroll. For those who are only recently reading this sight, there has been a sort of a trivia question thing going on; the last trivia question I had asked was that at the start of LOTM there were three bedrolls, by the end only two. What happened to the third? Had some great and very close quesses. So as to not keep anyone else in suspense any longer..... Chingachgook never of course misplaces his; but then he's a dad who probably never loses things. This leaves us with the two sons. When Hawkeye leaves the fort in chains, Dad is carrying both his and Hawkeye's gun (and pulls the hammer back on both just before the ambush), while Uncas carries both bedrolls. While the three are rushing, during the Massacre, to the sisters' aid, at the point just after Hawkeye "yells" (mouths) "Cora", in the background,Uncas sets down both bedrolls to prepare for an oncoming attaching enemy. I think it was at this point that he neglects to pick up one on the run to the canoes as he only puts only one bedroll into the canoe. Maybe a second bedroll was too heavy. Maybe the prop master didn't notice. (Maybe Uncas just wanted to have the one with his change of shirts in it....since Hawkeye didn't need to.) On the way to the village, Uncas and Hawkeye both take turns carrying it... probably more of a "continuity" problem.. But it was fun looking out for them. (Now, what was that red material strip running down their length....the bedroll's inside covering showing?) (And what's that green stuff hanging out of Uncas' bedroll that can be seen when Hawkeye and Uncas leave the Colonel Munro after telling him what had happened at Cameron's cabin?...) This has gone on long enough, thanks for all the replies. Anymore trivia questions out there?
