: : : Hello everyone. I just read the part of the script called the burial ground. In one part it was talking about Uncas taking his hand off of Alice's face and so on and so forth. And then it says that Chingachook (sp??) watches the whole thing and doesn't like it. So i thought he kind of liked alice but i guess i was wrong...?

: : Ok, well i got kind of cut off on this post, so i am going to finish it now. What i mean by thinking that Chingachook liked Alice was that in different parts he was helping her alot. Like after the masacre where their father died Chingachook helped her up and ran holding her arm to the canoe, and when they were coming into the cave, he helped her down. but i guess he could have just been being polite an helpful, right? ok c ya.

: We must have been cut off at the same time because my post didn't go through at that time either, and I had to boot out. My post had said that: I read the script pages again, (after your post), and I never thought of that possibility; I assumed that Chingachgook did not like the enemy following them so close, not of Alice and Uncas.... but it could be read your way, I think too. I also immediately thought of the time during the massacre scene, when Cora is slowly/struggling to get up just after Hawkeye has done in her enemy, and Uncas runs by in front of Cora, and Chingachook comes up in back and helps Alice up, all the while she is looking off camera towards Uncas' departed direction... why would Chingachgook help her then; why does Uncas race by her? Questions, questions....

I always assumed that Chingachgook was merely being polite and helpful towards a young, frightened girl, but who knows what the original intentions were of Cooper, or the writer of the screenplay? I need to read the original Last of the Mohicans by Cooper again, It has been about 10 years since I've read it, and I really don't recall much of the Uncas and Alice story, although that is what intrigues me most in the movie!
