: : Yes, Marcia, I liked it, although Newland Archer frustrates the soul out of me. He does make you want to slap him up the side of the head, doesn't he.

: To be sure, Chris, but I understand fully why he didn't think he had any other options. Then, of course, when he finally decided that he didn't care any more about propriety & was going to be with the Countess no matter what, May manages to trap him completely, and send the Countess away, all in one fell swoop. A little mouse who roared.

: The acting is not DDL's best, in my opinion, but he's certainly done worse (Eversmile, NJ).

: I've never seen this one, but the opinions I've heard vary WILDLY from loving it to abhoring it. Someday I'll get the chance to see it and decide which side of the fence I come down on. Have you seen him in Stars & Bars? Another I can't seem to locate.

: I like it for the depiction of the period, and the period was very straight-laced on the surface, although boiling underneath as the film pointed out. The costuming was wonderful. The glove scene was erotic. I have watched it a number of times and enjoy it each time I see it. As someone said, thank goodness our tastes are not all the same. The lines at the theaters would be awful.

: Agreed, again...but YAY! Another Mohican fan actually likes this besides me. I'm so glad. I was beginning to feel so LONESOME out here in Age of Innocenceland!

: : By the way, if you FF through the first hour of "The Unbearable Lightness of Being", it's a wonderful film, a strong period piece with an ending that knocks your socks off. It's just surviving the first hour that's the problem.

: Well, to be honest, I was so concerned that everyone was raving about a film that I had hated, I did watch it a second time. I agree that the last part of the film gets much stronger, and the ending was a shock. But I got so logged down in the first part, that I didn't care. I should try your suggestion of fast-forwarding. I did love Juliette Binoche's character, but not enough to sit through the whole thing again.

: Ah, well. One of the good things about talking over our likes & dislikes of any movie is that it makes you rethink your original ideas a bit. It may not change them, but it gives you a different perspective to consider. Thanks for the input!

Marcia:
I think it is great that evryone likes different things. There are actually people who don't like Wes's movies either. (Of course they must be weird or really out to lunch) That's just an opinion. I see something I like so I enjoy it. You see something you like, so you enjoy it. The main thing is that someone does like it and anyway, always support your favorite. I really like DDL in LOTM best, but I haven't seen the Boxer yet. But I also am partial to action movies. Complicated love stories are just not my cup of tea.
o, you say Tomahto and I'll say tomato and we'll each enjoy it.
