I always love to come across accounts of the women who were at ground zero during the F & I War. They had to be both lucky and strong. As it turns out the U.K. library has the Calder book with Brownes journal in it. I'll have to read it sometime (one more on the list). I think the F & I War is a gold mine for dramatic stories and wish more movies would be made. All this frontier drama was skimmed during the years between the 40's and 60's but was done in such a superficial manner. I'd like to see it done with more of an eye to examining the "human condition" and the impact of the "battle for the continent" and our somewhat more enlightened view (but still unfortunately limited) of the anthropology of the times.

Books + imagination = greater understanding
