: : I was just reading through the "more more mohican musings," and saw an omission.  There was an interesting section on the origins of the "hawkeye" character.  However, no mention was made of Daniel Boone.

: There can be little doubt that Cooper's Natty Bumppo is a conglomeration of several different personalities, Boone probably among them. For the singular, most likely, prototype, however, the man must be David Shipman. Boone, perhaps, would be the more glamorous choice, but the evidence points to Shipman.
