Hi, Norm! We're sorry you can't make it to the Gathering, too...maybe next year! 8-)

As for Gettysburg, my husband & I watched it twice, and liked it a lot. It is not an unflawed movie, but overall, I think it draws the viewer in. Mark knows a pretty fair amount about Civil War Battles, and his only real complaint (from an historical standpoint) was that it focused on such a small part of the battle of Gettysburg. The battle went on for three days, I think, and while the movie covers a portion of that, it doesn't exactly let you know that there was a LOT more going on than Pickett's charge, and Roundtop, simultaneously. But he thought it told the parts it did cover very well. I loved Jeff Daniel's portrayal of Chamberlain. I've always liked Martin Sheen, but I have a real problem with phony southern accents, and that detracted from his otherwise strong portrayal of Lee, in my mind. Plus Martin Sheen is a very small man, and Lee was not. But I thought his face showed the intense emotions Lee must have experienced, especially after Pickett's charge, exceptionally well. Overall, I feel the movie is well done, and anyone interested in American history should definitely see it. Also, watch the video (available at Blockbuster) on The Making of Gettysburg. A great story of the filming process, including a lot of footage of the reenactors used in the battle scenes.

And, Rich, I really envy your having been to Gettysburg...someday Mark and I will get there, too! We're determined!

Marcia
