To Marcia and others:
Madeleine Stowe is not a "star" , have never been will never be. That has nothing to do with talent but everything to do with how Stowe has always approach her career. I have always believe that not only is she one of the best actresses out there but very much under-appreciated by the business. She does not have the wide-open appeal of a Sandra Bullock or Julia Robert. Her qualities have always been a sense of mystery and distance and in today's age, that simply will not cut it when it comes to making someone a "star".
To put Stowe's career in perspective, she started making movies back in 1985 with a film called Tropical Snow .Since then she has made a total of 12 or so films.Remember that's in 13 years of a film career. Not exactly prolific.I am not saying she doesn't care about her career but her priorities have always been somewhere else. Certainly not a movie career.
As to her marriage to Brian Benben, I think there is something to be said about an actress who is in a relationship with the same man for 18 years. Married for around 13 of those 18 years. That's pretty rare for someone in that business.Stowe took off 2 years to have a baby.Twelf Monkees was release in 1995 and Stowe made The Proposition in 1997. No other actress in the world would take off 2 precious years to have a child if they care about nothing else but their career. The lady's a great actress.Cut her some slack.
Thanx. I'd appreciate a response.
