This web site is a testament to the impact LOTM can have on a person. It has had a profound - and inexplicable - effect on me. Why? I don't exactly know. Why does one root so passionately for a baseball team? I never, much to my disappointment, saw it on the big screen, and yet its force is large. When I watch it at home - for the embarrassingly shameful amounts of times that I have - my spirits still soar at the sound of the opening drums & theme, I still have to sigh deeply every time the music plays behind Cora at Albany or at the "more deeply stirring to my blood" backdrop to the Burial Ground, I still become exhilarated at the climactic pitch the score brings me to each time Hawkeye rescues Cora at Massacre Valley, and a somber, melancholy feeling overcomes me, still, every time I see the three survivors of this glorious tale looking out over the wilderness as the film ends ... In my booklet, I write "that now, finally, I can put it to rest." HA! What a joke! It's only just begun! I'm more entangled than ever.
