Guess I should contribute a "Moment" since I challenged others to do so. Trouble is, there are so MANY Hawkeye moments I love in this movie, besides the obviously glorious "No matter how long, no matter how far," that it's hard for me to pick just one. One that I definitely love is in the infirmary, when Hawkeye has cut the linen strips for his musket, and is leaving...he turns and stares at Cora (with those piercing DDL eyes!). She looks up, and says "What are you looking at, Sir?" and he replies, "I'm looking at YOU, Miss," and continues to stare searchingly. After a flustered, slightly embarrassed moment, Cora looks back up at him and hesitantly smiles. Hawkeye then returns her smile with a very satisfied one of his own, turns and walks out without another word. I feel this is the definitive moment in their relationship...he asks, she answers, and without any real discussion at all, their feelings for, and committment TO, each other is decided. They know from that moment on, they belong to each other. Gives me goosebumps every time I watch that scene.
It is so perfectly done.

OK, "gentle readers," (Gretchen?) it's your turn...give us a "Hawkeye Moment" that really speaks to your heart!

Marcia
