: : : I think I missed something - why does everyone think the homesteader gal was interested in Uncy? (as if any woman wouldnt be of course!!)???
: : : wolfie.
: : : : :
: : : : : : I think they should have gone for it - and to hell
: : : : : with the consequences!!

: : : : : : Wolfie.

: :
: : : : : : : A happy 4th of July to all you in the USA from a
: : : : : wannabe republican!!
: : : : : : : I know all you guys are out there celebrating but
: : : : : down in in NZ I'm just cold!! So I've been
: : : : : thinking.....
: : : : : : : What if Alice and Uncas had not shuffled off this
: : : : : mortal coil and they had indeed burst their
: : : : : respective bodices and declared their feelings that
: : : : : were nearly so obvious! Would such a relationship, in
: : : : : those times, have been allowed to continue and
: : : : : flourish? Would Cora and Chingachcook(Is that the
: : : : : right spelling?) have allowed it do you think? I
: : : : : vaguely remember a mini series or drama a while ago
: : : : : that dealt with this issue where a widowed settler
: : : : : had begun a relationship with a NA man and they were
: : : : : both dealt with fairly severely.
: : : : : : : So what do you think?
: : : : : : : Shivering at my computer
: : : : : : : Erin!

: : : : : :Interesting question you raise about Cora & Chingachook on whether they would've approved. I would think Cora would considering she fell in love with Hawkeye ( he is not Indian but was raised in and adopted their ways). I don't know about Chingachook. Perhaps he would've preferred an Indian bride for his son. But wasn't Uncas friendly with the neighbor's wife (the blonde)...sorry their names escape me at the moment.
: : : : : myte

: : : : Hi myte,

: : : : I agree with you. It was very subtle, but yes I think the woman
: : : : at the cabin that they vistited in the beginning was definitely
: : : : interested in uncas.

: : : : Ayesha

: : Yes, I've mentioned it before, but wasn't sure if anyone else saw what I thought I saw. At Cameron's cabin Mrs. Cameron brought up the subject of Uncas not being settled down with a wife yet. And she seemed to keep an eye on him during that scene. Uncas seemed very fond of her son, wrestling with him and teasing him. Also after the massacre Uncas comes upon her body and checks her neck wound and then presses her arm sorrowfully. Hawkeye seems to be especially sympathetic to Uncas after they survey the remains, as though Uncas had a special connection to the Camerons. I wasn't sure if there was sister-brother affection there or something else. Sure am curious as to what others think about this.
: : Alysha

: Hi Alysha,

: I have always thought that Mrs. Cameron had a special attraction for Uncas. It was very subtle. I was viewing the movie again this weekend on TNT. It seems the more I see that scene the more apparent it becomes. Maybe it is just me. What do other folks think?

: By the way I think is would be great to make a whole film on the
: Alice/Uncas theme. It would be so great to experice more depth
: in their relationship (original actors of course).

: I feel that the final scence before she jumps of the cliff was extremely powerful. I experienced a blend of defiance and bravery from her at that moment. It did not seem that she acted
: out of fear. It was as though she really came into her full self. Very strong!

: Ayesha

I agree with the feelings about the ending. Its one of the few things that have ever made me cry. Also, I dont know if Chingachook would have minded...he seems very open minded, and I think he just wanted both of his sons happy.
