I just watched the movie (for the second time) on TNT today, and I have to say that Alice's suicide is the second-most gut wrenching thing I've seen in the movies. (It doesn't quite top "Schindler's List" I'm afraid!). She looks most beautiful, actually, right before she dies.

I'll take your word for it, Joe, since I haven't seen "Schindler's List" yet. And you're right about Alice looking the most beautiful before she died. It's like she came into her own as a woman, for just a brief moment.
