: Taking LOTM as a true stand-alone classic (forget the Cooper connection), was the Hawkeye character successful enough that we would urge Mann to create a rousing sequel with further adventures of this American hero?

I think so. Who would you suggest as the lead? hehe
Are you suggesting that the Leatherstocking tales be done in
entirety?

Have said it before, and will say it again, I would love to see how man would handle Northwest Passage. And NO, not Bruce Willis as Major Rogers. In point of fact, I think Spencer Tracy did a pretty good job at portraying Rogers, but at the time the movie was made there were a lot of inaccuracies in equipment, etc. Now I admit that perhaps Bruce Willis is no pretty boy, but Robert Rogers by all accounts was a rather ugly man.....short, big nose,
rough face (straighten me out here Major Bray, also face pitted from smallpox?)....rather stocky in form. Don't know who that might be among contemporary actors....but Mann could certainly improve upon the movie given what he did with LOTM.
