: Enough about historic accuracy! It wasn't meant to be a documentary. If it was we wouldn't love it so much!! The book was even worse as a historic reference and the earlier movies were a joke! I have the 1920's silent version in my collection and it is a HOOT! Magua was played by,of all people!, Wallace Beery! Hawkeye was some unknown, who was so scared of the flash from "KillDeer" he closed his eyes and buried his face in his shoulder when he fired, and Cora was in love with Uncas (who was the romantic lead). So the movie wasn't perfect, but it's as close as you're gonna get.

I don't think our talk of inaccuracies is meant as a criticism of the film. Some of us just really like history, and use the film as an excuse for showing off our historical knowledge (rather limited, in my case.) After all, how much can we talk about how fine Eric and DDL are? ;-)

Mike (Madeline, now, I could talk about all day.)
