Joy: I always assumed that there wasn't room in the canoe for Duncan & he and the other soldier got in the second one (he wasn't alone, remember). But then, I always give Duncan the benefit of the doubt, I guess. I don't think his honor would have let him run out on the others. To me, the only dishonorable thing he did was lie about the raid on the Cameron's cabin, and that I believe he did out of a mistaken idea that it was in the "best interests of the Crown." But I know you don't see him that way. One more interesting thing about this film...we each have our own views of motives, etc. connected to each character. I even feel sorry for Magua, though I sure wouldn't want to see him coming at me in the dark of night, unless I had an AK47 handy!
