I've heard those yells, too, Mary, and my reaction was that they're part of the soundtrack (even though you can't hear them on the CD) rather than anything that's supposed to be going on in the scene. Those yells are 'human music' for lack of a better term, meant to convey the primeval setting of what we're watching. I don't know how I arrived at this conclusion -- it was just a gut reaction the first time I heard it.
