Myrrh, just to let you know you're not the only one who was surprised in reading that Chingachgook took out the guard by knocking him down. I always thought the guard fell to a stray bullet as well. The viewer goes from the attack to Hawkeye's shackles being unlocked so the editor must have figured it doesn't matter that Chingachgook resolved the problem. But for those of us who love the movie so much, it's details like that that make a difference!
