Joy, I agree about the guard during the massacre scene...I never realized he wasn't just shot in the attack. But I have a different take on the events you describe above. First of all, I thought Cora & Hawkeye spent a LONG time together. He wouldn't have gone back to cover the colonials slipping out...if he had, he'd have been arrested right then on the spot. The British would surely have seen him shooting, etc. I figured the colonials just "slipped out the back, Jack!" They would have had to make their escape silently & secretly to keep from being apprehended and hanged themselves. That's what I thought the instructions about going out the north and sally port were all about...making sure they got out unseen.

My thought was that Hawkeye spent the time with Cora while all this slipping out was going on, and stayed with her quite awhile. They certainly look like they've been gazing out at the night together a long time (after The Kiss). Then he went to the sleeping quarters, and was arrested. I would have guessed that Cora, upon arising (probably early) the next morning, discovered immediately that he'd been taken, and stormed into her father's office. What say you other Mohican fans?
