Yes, Hawkeye did say that he would help Jack and the others leave. I could be mistaken, but it seems he told Jack, "I'll cover you from the top of the bastion." which prompted Jack to ask "You're not comin' with us?"
Also, when the British came to take Hawkeye into custody, according to the subtitles, Chingachgook asked why they made his white son prisoner, to which Hawkeye replied, "I helped Jack and the others leave."
It would be nice to know when Hawkeye helped them leave--to have seen him help them. I vote for a director's cut. The scene where Uncas was cut by the Huron on the way to the fort(when Cora patched him up later). I've read some of the past posts, and I, for one, think a few more exchanges between Uncas and Alice would have been nice, though I'm not complaining about my favorite movie.
