I agree with you, Joy. I really liked Jack, and felt, as you did, that he symbolized the coming disenchantment of colonials with their English governors. He's developed just enough pluck and gumption, living on the frontier, that he now sees the impracticality and basic dishonesty of the aloofness of English sovereignty, and now he chafes under that yoke! He gave a fine performance. I liked the way his accent was a blend of old and new...you can hear a tiny bit of England and lots of New World in there -- almost sounds Brooklynesque at times!

I think his part was one of the anchor points of the film.
