:I find it almost the perfect romantic adventure film. I remember when I first saw it, day it opened in NYC in September 1992, I left the theater with my heart in my throat. I would eventually pay to see it in the theater eight more times. I convinced all my friends and family to see it as well and so whenever they went I went too.
Hi, Tom! So glad to read your "rambling" post! I loved it. How I envy you the chance to have seen this movie in the theaters 8 times! I am sad to say, though I've viewed the film well over 100 times (blame my little compulsive-neurotic soul!!) I've never had the opportunity to see it in the theater. Like you, though, I have begged, cajoled & bribed my friends & family members to watch it with me repeatedly. Though none of them has turned into the Mohican Maniac I am, they have all enjoyed the film enough to watch it at least a couple of times with me. And both my daughter and my husband have made the trek to the top of Hickory Nut Falls at my side, waiting patiently (or laughing outright) as I carefully identified the exact location of every scene in the film...and in some cases, acted out portions for their amusement. (Yes, I even rolled around on Nature's Showerbath, the slab of rock where Uncas loses his gallant fight to save Alice!)
You are in good company here, Tom. Be sure to read all the wonderful pages Rich & Elaine have put together on the history of the era and the behind the scenes stories, too. This site has so much to offer. And if you haven't ordered the book, as a Mohican fan, you will find it a real treat. The photographs of the film's sites are so beautiful, and looking at them, you can almost feel the movie come to life in those pages. If you haven't guessed, I love this site!!
