It's worth noting that in the script it says that Magua is about to kill Alice, but the look in her eyes stops him. He then holds out his hand to her. On these grounds, I'd say that you've hit the nail on the head.

P.S. Is it just me, or did Elaine post her message to this thread twice (either way, not to worry).
