: Hi Guys,
: As much as I love the LOTM there is one line that drives me crazy ever time I hear it. I just wonder why they put that line in the script. Its the line where DDL is telling Cora to stay alive under the waterfall and then he says "if they don't kill you, they will take you north to Huron land" etc.. I just wonder why he had to say "if they don't kill you" to her. Come on! The poor woman was incredibly frightened, her boyfriend was about to leap through the falls and leave her, and she didn't have a clue whether this was the end or not.

: Don't you think that DDL could have been a little less honest and spared her that extra horrible thought? Why would he even say that in the first place? He needed to try to keep her positive about his finding her and not telling her that she could be killed. I am sure that Cora was well aware of that thought without him reiterating that point again. I am sorry guys but I really believe our hero needed to take a sensitivity training course on how to break bad news..(GRIN)

I have a totally different reaction to that line. At that point in the
film, he is in a chaotic situation. He can't fight his way out --
he can't even defend the woman he loves. All he can do is
leave, and it practically kills him. He has no time for anything
but absolute honesty, and in his world it's the greatest compliment he can give her.

BTW, Joe, thanks for the powder explanation. I always
wondered about that. Guess there weren't too many
7-11 stores back then...unless you went to Schuylerville,
of course! VBG
