Congratulations on your very good taste, Myte! Even though Hawkeye is my favorite DDL role, I think DDL does a stronger job of acting in Age of Innocence. Just from the standpoint that it takes a great deal more skill to portray repressed suffering than such an overtly stalwart character as Hawkeye. And he suffered SO eloquently as Newland. I still think the scene where he unbuttons Michelle Pfeiffer's glove & kisses her wrist is one of the most erotic I've ever watched!

But, having said that, I'll probably never watch Age of Innocence anywhere near as many times as I've watched Mohicans, even though I love it a lot...amazing what a dose of healthy hunkhood will do to ya, isn't it?
