: Pardon me if this has been done before (after 6 years, chances are it has) but it's a hot one for me:

: I don't know how many people paid much attention to the comment by Hawkeye that he had learned English at Reverend Wheelock's school, but it sure pricked my ears because that same school was the precurser to my Alma Mater, Dartmouth College. Reverend Eleazar Wheelock was born in 1711 in Windham, Connecticut, and throughout his adult life fervently sought to educate and convert Indians. He had several "Mohegan" students, including one Samson Occum, who went to England on Wheelock's behalf to raise money for his school and returned with today's equivalent of $1.16M. Much of it was from the Earl of Dartmouth, who found Occum to be eloquent and the endeavor to be worthy.

: However, I know Wheelock ran Moor's Indian Charity School in CT, which later moved to New Hampshire, but that wasn't opened until 1754. And if LOTM was in 1757, and Hawkeye and Uncas went when Hawkeye was 10 (presumably more than 3 years prior), then it wasn't that school they went to and I haven't found a record yet of another Indian School run by Wheelock. But then, I don't have his bibliography.

: Possibly the reference was poetic license.

Excuse me if my history is wrong, but didn't the French and Indian war start in 1757? If that's the case, then the movie probably meant that the war started in 1757, cuz it also said that they were in the third year of war, which is 1760.....hmm..still that would make Hawkeye only 16 and Uncas even younger....
