Marcia just pointed out to me that the reason we had difficulty understanding some of the dialogue in LOTM is that in order to preserve realism, Michael Mann did not tone down the peripheral sounds. This was especially noticeable in the waterfall scene, I believe. Didn't decipher about l/2 the lines there until the 3rd viewing.

Especially difficult to hear for me was what Cora said to Hawkeye while he conveys that her father was killed and consoles her. Finally, after turning the sound way up, I heard "nothing to Alice."

In the scene at the Indian burial ground, when Cora first approaches Hawkeye......she says "you knew them well then?".....must have listened 7 xs before I understood that one.

There was a discussion of what Mrs. cameron said to Chink...(one of these days I'll focus on that spelling:o)when entering the cabin. After replaying a number of times, I heard "welcome" rather than "uncle."

Maybe others had the same prolem with these particular scenes. I'm sure there were other words difficult to decipher, can't think of them now however.....ann
