: I believe it is often in contracts between film makers & property owners that the property used must be returned (as near as possible) to the condition it was in before filming. Maybe this is why the fort was destroyed. Sounds like something Rich or Susan Houck might know! What about it guys?

Elaine answered this well, but I'd like to add that I talked with "Peanut", the man who ultimately torched and caterpillared the fort into the gulley in the woods where it rests as a heap of rubble: He did it with reverence. I got from him a sense of awe that he was the one to do this final deed, lock the access road gates, and leave.

Pieces of the fort may be seen in my den, the Bumgarners' cabin, and down the road a piece in various neighborhood homes! People who came to my house at the Gathering may have noticed the abatis spikes guarding my back porch steps.
