: Well, I was just thinking about what Soldier #2 or maybe it was someone else, said. That LOTM (maybe) didn't have the "right" connections with the Academy Awards people or whatever. I'm thinking that he's right. Why else would LOTM have been snubbed like that. I have read tons of reviews about LOTM and they are all ***1/2 or better.

Hi Lyll,

Re "right" connections & LOTM being snubbed at the Oscars -- maybe this was the result of the Director being more famous for TVs "Miami Vice", rather than Hollywood films. In fact, this might have been his very first full feature film.

However, LOTM was considered a box-office hit. Translation: evidently the investors were happy with there profits. Most of Michael Mann's projects seem to be contemporary -- what a sad waste, considering his talent for creating period pieces.
