: Yes, Caitlin, you've got it. Alice was very young, and I suspect the fact that Cora and her father tried so hard to protect her was because they knew her nature very well. She was fragile. Who better to understand how much (or little) she was capable of handling than the two people closest to her. And it certainly appears they were right.

Maybe she was fragile, but i firmly believe that if she learned more by experience she would have been much stronger. She was very sheltered from knowing certain things about what was going on...so it would be very understandable for her to be shell shocked. How wouldn't you if you thought that everything was safe and then one minute witness a massacre. Speaking from someone who knows extremely well what being treated like a baby is. I mean REALLY.
