I don't think I'm qualified to answer this, but to my understanding, American Indians lived ( and those that still live according to traditional ways) in balance with nature. They refer to the Earth as their grandmother, and everything in it is a part of her. So, they treated with respect everything on it and gave thanks to the Great Spirit (the creator). Everything was sacred and had meaning, the wind, the sun, the rain, the grass, colors, EVERYTHING.
