: Oh, but Elaine!!

: If you painted me a black buffalo I would see much more than just a black buffalo!! I would see a very sacred and spiritual image, a symbol of a people living in balance with nature, a source of life, a center of existence, a necessity for survival! I could go on and on about what I would see and feel when looking at your painting of a black buffalo!! Others might look at your black buffalo and see just an ugly and useless animal that has outlived its time, and who cares if every last one of them is slaughtered and they die out completely. Two very different interpretations of just a painting of a black buffalo.

: I am not arguing that Jodhi May's portrayal of Alice was not that of a frightened and emotionless girl. I am not trying to misinterpret what Mann and Jodhi set out to accomplish as far as the characteristics of Alice are concerned. I believe that Alice was frightened and numbed by what she saw happening around her (superbly acted by Jodhi May). But, that is not to say that she didn't possess a thought, an emotion, or an ounce of strength within her. That's the point I'm trying to make.

: We can both look at the frail and emotionless Alice and see two very different things. You see a weak girl who is vacant and oblivious to what is happening around her, trapped in her own abyss. I look into her eyes and see a girl full of emotion, a girl who absorbs the turmoil of her surroundings and struggles internally with all of her strength to keep going, to survive. She may barely get by, but she hangs on until the end. AND that, to me, is strength.

: I respect and see where you are coming from.

I hear you. (Boy, I'm gone for a weekend and lots of stuff happens.) You explain and state your points well and I agree and back you on them. Just to let you know I'm still here and still agreeing with you.
