: One of the people mentioned in the History Channel's program on Pontiac was George Croghan.  He is one of the more interesting people on the scene during and after the F & I War.  He was one of the "Suffering Traders" who could no longer ply his trade in western Pennsylvania.  Caught up in the events, he managed to become William Johnson's assistant and became involved in much of the activities and negotiations during and after the war.  He married a Native American woman named Catherine, and they had a daughter also named Catherine who eventually married Joseph Brant.  Croghan's translator/traveling companion was Andew Montour who was also a facsinating person.  Montour also worked for Bouquet and Washington.  He was the son of Madame Montour who was half French and also was employed as a translator until her health failed.  (See, there WERE women in that trackless forest!).
