LOTM on DVD?

Has anyone heard anything about LOTM on DVD? It seems like it would
be a perfect fit for DVD. Hey, here's an idea: A Director's Cut on
DVD! I've seen that a lot of movies that are being released on DVD
have various enhancements, like Director's Cut's, or Special Edition,
additional footage, etc...
