If somebody was bound and determined to hang me, after setting me up, I would have ditched them in a minute. But then, I am only a simple person, not the stuff of which heroes and heroines are made, like Hawkeye and Company.

Kathy, true, most of us are not so valorous as Hawkeye & Crew, but don't forget there is also the fact that their chances at fending off the Hurons are better if their number is larger. It's just plain sensible to want to stick together to fight off their common enemy. (They don't know at this point that they will all be soaked and have no gunpowder available, thus making retreat a better option.) So Hawkeye leaving Duncan & our brave Soldier #2 WAAAAY behind might have been cutting off his nose to spite his face, eh?

Just another point to ponder.
