To my knowledge the Inuit are the only people who believe in reincarnation. Other Native nations such as the Cree don't ever mention a person's name once the person has passed on. The spirit is supposed to be left alone and wouldn't find any rest if the name was mentioned again...

BTW I finally remembered the sea goddess' name ( bothered me all day yesterday). Her name is Sedna and quite a few of Inuk carvers have used her for their artwork. I also found a nice story about her on the net. Here is the URL: http://www.tlntv.com/sednaandthehunter.htm
