In all fairness, Doc M has not seen The Patriot, and probably
never will, but this review that she saw on the website
Rotten Tomatoes made her snort in her coffee...

"During the shopping two hour and 44 minute running time
of The Patriot, my mood shifted repeatedly. Early on, I found
the oh-so-perfect picture postcard ligting of every single
damn scene so maddening that I leaned to a friend and growled,
'I hate this movie!' Then a juicy battle scene reinvigorated
my fading spirits...But just as I was ready to surrender to
the story's rah-rah momentum, the filmmakers threw in a series
of hero-charging-forward-waving-the-flag-in-slow-motion images
so cheesy that I wanted to scream, 'Run for your lives --
they've remade The Postman!'"

From what I've read about the movie, the thing that would
irritate me the most is turning the most interesting and
complex period of our history into Lethal Musket. Maybe
someday somebody like Ken Burns will do for the Revolution
what he did for the Civil War. I keep my gnarly old fingers
crossed in hope.
