: Ahhhh, you all have been quite philosophical in your views and I commend you all....as we discuss The Patriot, American independence, etc. Nightsky, you hit on something so very important. It is likened to what I have been saying about historical movies.. there is more than entertainment, there is authenticity. And, there is more to history than wars, there is also the thinking man (and woman!!), the T. Jefferson, the Franklin, the John Dewey (that's education stuff), the Thoreau, the Rousseau, etc., etc....There should be more accomplished by reflective silence (followed by an action to come to a good end) than through war and battle. I believe that members of society should be "contributing" members....that's why we educate. To contribute positively, one must reflect and research to find what is best for our country and our world.

: OK, enough of that. But, Nightsky, I certainly agree with you. As much as I enjoy the reeancting scene, I would rather spend one hour with Thomas Jefferson than with Alexander the Great!

: Oh, and as to Seamus's message about the Patriot (down the Board a ways, I believe)....yes, yes, you are probably right on all counts. But,...I still say Hollywood should NOT compromise authenticity just to entertain when it takes no more effort to put clothes on Aunt Charlotte (when she's on the island saying goodbye) or to add (God bless him) the Old Wagoneer Dan Morgan in the movie so he is given credit for his genius in beating Tarleton (Tavington, whatever!!). And....(Gawdd...won't Dr. UM ever stop!!) what the heck were the buckles on the front of B. Martin's breeches!! If they are correct, just tell me how and why!!

: Pax Aye!
: ("That government is best which governs the least"...T. Jefferson)

: Dr. U. Mark
This has been quite enlightening. To hear from all of you on the topic of The Patriot proves at least one thing. It has gotten people to think. I have been in the reenacting hobby for a long time. On day I will have to stop doing battle because of age but then I will hopefully be able to deliver by the word when the sword stops. Uncle Mark, I respect your opinions as well as the other esteemed list people. Just think though, if the movie hadn't been made we wouldn't be talking about it. To all a good night.
