Dr. Uncle Mark,
The phenomenon you mention, when you almost slip into another time period after being around it so long and everything seems authentic...that is discussed in "Confederates in the Attic"...there is a section about a reenactor (CW) who gets so into it, those little time warps are part of what he calls a "Civil Wargasm." Isn't that a hoot!!!
Diana, about the commercial breaks, I totally agree, I couldn't stand them! But, if you gotta have them, I at least thought they were carefully planned between key scenes and not just butchered. So I guess there's a bright side to everything? Even commercials? :)

: Ahhhh, we can't go back, but we try! The best has been at reenactments and living history camps, when the public leaves and we are left to be our 18th century selves. At Fort Ti several weeks ago, I stood back and watched (I am usually actively participating!), as natives were playing a game of lacrosse, Highlanders were playing quoits, other groups were sitting around campfires talking, several officers were down by the lake discussing the next day's battle, everyone was correctly (?) dressed and accoutred, and in the background was the Fort. For a few fleeting moments.....I was back in time. It happens once in a while!!
