: What worries me a bit is that this issue is once again polar and asks us to make distinctions about who is better, who deserves special consideration, in what form is meaningful compensation to be made, and most importantly WHO makes it? And to whom exactly? Without that effort - it's like Conrad Adenhaur apologizing to Mrs. Moscowitz for the Holocaust. Nice, but
: just doesnt faze her unless to insult her. Even trying to find a way to compensate all those descendents and survivors is almost an insult. HOW MUCH is fair compensation for the demise of an entire several generations of a particular "tribe"? Their demise touches us all and robs us all of their contributions down the ages. We all suffer for it.

: Best compensation is to learn from it and not repeat it. YOu begin by recognizing that no one culture, people, race or religion is better than any other and does not deserve power over the others.

: Right?

Right, Bill. Excellent post. Your remarks are strikingly illustrated by the issue of compensation for the (descendants of the) Holocaust victims, which is hotly debated in Holland right now.
