No Verdict! Yet ...
From Friends of the Falls:
Dear Supporters of Friends of the Falls,
Here is the latest word from Raleigh this morning. Gov. Hunt told the COS
members today that they would not act on the Dupont/Anthony issue today, as
they needed more time to think about it. He and the Attorney General were
briefed by DENR on the negotiations with Jim Anthony just last night. Gov.
Hunt noted and commented again on the scenic beauty of the area. He also
stated that the government had gotten more citizens comments on this issue
than any other that he can remember. (These comments were overwhelmingly in
support of total acquisition of the property.) His assistant press
secretary said that in one day alone he had collected over 3000 email,
letters, faxes, and phone calls in support for acquiring the property! He
said we need to keep doing what we are doing - gaining more and more public
support. It is clear our voices are being heard and are making a difference.
We greatly appreciate everyone's efforts to date and need to urge you to
continue to spread the word to all your friends and ask them to respond to
our government officials. Our website http://www.dupontforest.com will be
updated whenever necessary to reflect current action plans and contacts.
We expect to continue our campaign this coming month with more TV ads, and
expanded news coverage as we reach out to a broader audience through out
the state. Just this pass week, we have gotten press coverage in Charlotte,
Winston-Salem, Raleigh, and possibly other places as well. We will again
call on you for last minute calls to actions when necessary. As always, we
need contributions to fund our efforts and keep the campaign moving
forward. They may be sent to FOF, POB 272, Cedar Mountain, NC 28718. We
also welcome your suggestions and help in any way.
Again, thank you and keep up the good fight! The voice of the people will
