: Did anyone else think he was very, very sexy?
I'll skip over this sexy part ...
: His eyes kind of smoldered.
Yes, they DID! Penetrating, haunting eyes!
: I was so disappointed when I truly learned that he had known that Magua was going to attack the English.
In the film? Yes, that's made fairly clear. In reality, the culpability of Montcalm at the Fort William Henry "massacre" is subject to much debate ... and has been on this Board from time to time ...
: I beleived his gallantry and his wanting Monro to "listen to the admonishons of humanity"
Well, I wouldn't go that far. Perhaps my impressions are colored with what I know of the REAL Marquis de Montcalm. I feel that he was being sincere in his direct talks with Colonel Munro, HOWEVER, after the truce was called, he realized the temper of his Indian allies. Not being paid soldiers, as were the French & English, their reward was the prestige & booty associated with the life of a sucessful warrior. Denied that, he needed to acquiesce to their wishes so as to not lose such an important ally!
Ah well, intrigue & war!
